Welcome to From My Hungarian Kitchen

About Me

Hi, I’m Anita — the cook and creator behind From My Hungarian Kitchen.

I grew up in Hungary surrounded by home cooking, handwritten recipes and the kind of meals that bring everyone to the table. Today, from my kitchen in Montreal, I’m sharing those recipes with you — along with the stories, traditions and memories behind them.

I love simple, honest food: traditional Hungarian dishes, comforting family meals, homemade breads, pastries and desserts that don’t need to be complicated to be delicious.

My Story

Food has always been part of my story. I learned to cook and bake from my mom and grandmother, watching them turn simple ingredients into meals that could feed a whole family. Many of the recipes I make today come from those memories.

I also studied gastronomy and later had my own restaurant, but some of the most important things I know about cooking were learned at home. After moving to Canada, cooking became one of the ways I stayed connected to Hungary. The smell of a soup simmering on the stove, fresh bread coming out of the oven or a familiar Hungarian cake can take me straight back home.

That is what From My Hungarian Kitchen is really about: preserving those recipes, sharing them with the next generation, and showing that Hungarian home cooking can be simple, affordable and absolutely delicious.

Why I Do This

I believe recipes are one of the ways we keep our memories alive. The dishes I learned from my mom and grandmother are now being cooked in my own kitchen and shared with my children — and through this website, with families around the world.

I don’t cook restaurant food here. I cook real family food: recipes that have a story, recipes that work on busy weekdays, recipes that stretch a budget, and recipes that make people say, “My grandmother used to make this.” If one of my recipes brings back a memory, helps you discover Hungarian cooking, or becomes something your own family makes again and again, then this little kitchen has done exactly what I hoped it would do.
